Project Overview:
Expression is an essential need. In cities and towns, across diverse Ohio regions, the arts communicate experiences and enhance quality of life—enriching education, building Ohio's economy, and telling stories of our communities. By strengthening investment and engagement in the arts, the Ohio Arts Council supports creative expression for artists, for organizations, for students & educators, and for the public.

This is the story the Ohio Arts Council wished to convey through a refreshed brand
identity in 2015 that captured the council’s history, future, and the state of Ohio. Further, the Council wished to streamline their communications to speak to each segment of their audience (artists, arts organizations, students & educators, the public). Each audience segment is visually represented with its own color and mark within the logo.

The identity system was complete with:

  • Logo

  • Style guidelines

  • High level messaging strategy

  • Audience communication breakdown

Further, the Council’s website was redesigned to reflect the new brand and streamline communications online among each segment.

How I Helped:
I served as project manager, maintaining the project timeline and budget as well as monitoring and controlling the key phases and milestones for the life cycle of the project from start to finish.

Additionally, I collaborated with internal team members at Fulcrum and external copywriter, RaDonna Reed, to conduct a thorough brand discovery of the Ohio Arts Council and collectively craft the high-level messaging strategy used to articulate the voice for the Council.

Impact:
From the minute you hit the homepage on the Council’s website, you can immediately identify which sector of their audience you fall within and easily navigate the site to find information relative to your individual needs. The color coding and tailored messaging has successfully streamlined communications across all web and print materials and has allowed the Council to better connect with everyone they serve.
